Message Template Editor
The Message Template Editor allows you to customize the text of SLA notifications. You can use this feature to customize the text of SLA notifications to notify users in comments or via Slack.

This feature is available only for the “Notify user in comment” and “Notify via Slack” actions. It appears when one of these options is selected as a Limit Exceeded action in the SLA time goals settings.
If you don’t know how to integrate your SLA Time and Report for Jira app with Slack, here is the Integration with Slack instruction.
How it works
The editor contains a default message template with shortcodes. Shortcodes are placeholders that automatically insert values from the work item into the message.
👉 Similar to “smart values” in Jira automation
When the notification is triggered, these placeholders are replaced with real data.
How to open and configure the Message Template Editor
Open the Message Template Editor
To open the editor:
Go to SLA configuration
Open SLA time goals settings
Select a notification action (Notify in comment or Notify via Slack)
Click the message icon

Work with message templates
In the editor, you will see a default message that includes shortcodes.
Shortcodes are placeholders that are automatically replaced with real data from the work item when the message is sent. All shortcodes are written inside square brackets: [ ]
You can use the following shortcodes in your message:
[SLAName] – The title of your SLA Configuration Name.
[SLAGoal] – The name of your SLA Goal.
[GoalValue] – Current SLA Goal value.
[Assignee] – The person who was assigned the issue.
[Reporter] – The person who is creating the issue.
[InvolvedUsers] – List of added people to SLA Goals Limit Exceeded action.
[WorkItemURL] – The URL link for the current issue, which has SLA goals.
[ConfigURL] – The URL link for the current SLA configuration.
[WorkItemKey] – Key of the current issue.
[WorkItemSummary] – A short summary of the current issue.
[WorkItemPriority] – Priority of the current issue.
[SLACKUsers] – Mention Slack user(s) by ID.

You can customize the text as you wish. You can use Shortcodes and look at how it will be in the message before sending it with the Preview mode. Furthermore, if you want the default version back, click on the “Reset to default” button.

Pay attention! The Notification text field is required and can contain up to 1000 characters. HTML cannot be used.
