How to search history by keyword without JQL

Problem: Content changes

During a sprint review, a team member was asked to find an old task related to a payment error. They remembered the task initially consisted of the word “error” in the title, but they couldn’t locate it in Jira by JQL search. It turned out later that someone had renamed the task from “Error in payment” to “Issues with payment.” When they searched for the keyword “error” using Jira’s regular search, the task didn’t show up since the current title no longer contained that word.

How to solve it: Search history by keyword

Open the Issue History for Jira app and switch to the Activity View.

Use the keyword search feature and enter the keyword “error” into the search field.

It will instantly filter all issue history records containing that word, including previous summaries, descriptions, comments, and other changes.

The log also displays who made the change and when it occurred.

Result: Every change found

Thanks to the keyword search in history, the team member quickly located the issue without guessing or using JQL. They were able to trace the exact moment the summary was changed. This saved time and ensured transparency across the team. It also highlighted how tracking changes over time with Issue History for Jira helps maintain clarity and accountability in fast-moving projects.
