How to uninstall or reinstall the app in Azure DevOps?

If you need to remove the extension or reinstall it to fix issues, Azure DevOps allows you to manage everything directly from your organization settings. Follow the steps below.

How to Uninstall the App

1. Open your Azure DevOps Organization

Go to https://dev.azure.com/ and select the organization where the app is installed.

2. Go to Organization Settings

Click Organization Settings in the bottom-left corner of the sidebar.

3. Open the Extensions section

Navigate to:

Extensions → Installed Extensions

Here you'll see a list of all apps installed in your organization.

4. Find the app (e.g., Time in State for Azure DevOps)

Scroll through the list or use the search bar to locate the extension.

5. Click “Uninstall”

Open the extension details and click Uninstall.

Azure DevOps may also prompt you to:

  • Confirm the removal

  • Choose where to uninstall if you have multiple organizations

Uninstallation usually takes a few seconds.

🔄 How to Reinstall the App

If you need to reinstall the app (e.g., after troubleshooting, incorrect setup, or permission issues), follow these steps:

1. Go to the Azure DevOps Marketplace

Open:
https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/azuredevops

Search for the app you want to reinstall.

2. Open the extension page

For example: Time in State for Azure DevOps

Click Get it Free (or Get if you already purchased a subscription).

3. Choose your Azure DevOps Organization

Select the same organization where the app was previously installed.

Click Install.

4. Approve permissions

Confirm the required permissions requested by the extension.

5. Wait for installation to complete

Installation is automatic and takes around 10–30 seconds.

Once the extension is installed again, you can access it under:

  • Boards

  • Project Settings → Extensions

  • or the specific app section, depending on the tool

🛠 When should you reinstall the app?

Reinstallation is helpful when:

  • The app does not appear in Boards, Dashboards, or extensions

  • Reports or widgets are not loading

  • Permissions were incorrectly configured

  • Azure DevOps shows an installation error

  • Metadata or configuration failed to sync

Often, reinstalling refreshes the extension files and reconnects it properly to your organization.

❗ Important Notes

  • Uninstalling the app does not remove your Azure DevOps data.

  • After reinstalling, your reports and analytics will continue working normally.

  • Only Organization Owners or Project Collection Administrators can install or uninstall apps.
